Screenings

Throughout the school year Health Services will conduct screening sessions for vision, hearing and scoliosis. The initial screenings are conducted by volunteers who have been trained in the screening process. All rescreens are done by the school nurse; and if necessary, referrals are sent directly to the parents.

Volunteers are always welcome to help with the screening programs. If you are interested in volunteering, you may contact Health Services.

Hearing: Hearing screening is conducted for all students, Kindergarten through 3rd grade. Students are also screened again in 5th, 7th, and 9th grade. If you have questions or concerns regarding the hearing screening process, feel free to contact Health Services in your student's building.

Vision: Vision screening is completed for Elementary students, first through third grade. In addition students in 5th, 7th, and 9th grade are screened. Students are screened for both near-sighted and far-sighted vision. If you have questions or concerns regarding your students vision, feel free to contact Health Services in your student's building.

Scoliosis: Scoliosis is a side to side curvature of the spine. If this condition is detected early and appropriately treated, progressive spine deformity can be prevented. Minnesota Department of Health currently recommends that girls are screened in the fall of 5th grade and in the spring of 6th grade. No screening is recommended for boys. Please feel free to contact Health Services in your student’s building if you have any questions or concerns regarding scoliosis.
